I think that the resentment factor of American upper-class not being welcomed or recognized by the British upper class was a major, major driving fact of the revolution. Nobody likes to hit a ceiling. Nobody likes to be watching the party through the glass. The ambition to not be second-tier anything was real.
An excellent article! And it just goes to show that if you dig deep enough into history you come across facts that have been ignored. Thank you for bringing these facts to our attention.
Well done! Ft Necessity was a yearly field trip in Western PA schools in the 70’s/80’s. What happened before Washington built the fort was always glossed over.
I love this. And I can relate. Also, a surveyor compass does not show direction N, E, S, W but N, W, S, E: bearings. Eg, go N 23xW 94 degrees x [distance] to a point. Metaphorically, it gave Washington his bearings.
Sometimes you encounter someone who writes history so well that you want to take the time to express your appreciation for what they took the time to eloquently and beautifully write. But when you read what you wrote in appreciation juxtaposed against the quality of the writing being appreciated, you just scrap the whole thing and say…
Wow, that was an amazing read.

Washington can't hang out w/ the cool kids in high school and goes on to build the foundation for a new sovereign nation.
